A
22-year-old Nepali student, Manisha Dahal from Jhapa, tragically
lost her life in Wonju, South Korea, after being hit by a truck while
walking on Monday. According to the Nepali Embassy in Seoul, Dahal had
gone to South Korea a year ago to study at Far East University. The
embassy confirmed that the process of repatriating her body to Nepal has
already begun. Parvati Moktan, chairperson of the Non-Resident Nepali
Association (NRNA) in South Korea, stated that the truck driver admitted
fault, and legal procedures are underway to ensure justice and
compensation for Dahal’s family. The Society of Nepalese Students in
Korea (SONSIK) also expressed deep sorrow over her untimely death,
emphasising the unity of the Nepali community in supporting her family during
this difficult time. This heartbreaking incident has once again raised concerns
about the safety and well-being of Nepali students abroad, as community
members call for stronger protection and awareness measures.
