January 20, 2026

Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC), which is managed by China Scholarship Council (CSC) under the Ministry of Education of China, is one of the most multifaceted and most desirable scholarships offered to international students and Nepalese students are not left behind. It serves to finance in full or part the studies at the Chinese universities on bachelor, master, doctoral and other degrees (e.g., general scholar, senior scholar). It is especially popular among Nepali students studying MBBS (in the English language), engineering, IT/computer science, business, and so forth with a high bilateral support.

There are three major types of CSC scholarships (A, B and C), with Type A (Bilateral Program) being the most popular path of Nepali students via the Chinese Embassy in Nepal or even the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) in Nepal. The Chinese University Program (direct university nomination) is Type B and other designated programs are Type C.

The scholarship covers:

·       Full tuition

·       Accommodation (or stipend)

·       Monthly living allowance (e.g. CNY 2,500 undergraduate, CNY 3,000 masters, CNY 3,500 doctoral).

·       Full-time medical coverage.

·       One-time settlement allowance (usually CNY 1,5003,000)

General eligibility: 2026 Intake Eligibility Criteria

·       In good health (physical/mental) Non-Chinese citizen.

·       Age restriction: Not older than 25 years bachelor, not older than 35 years master, not older than 40 years PhD (some flexibility).

·       Academic qualifications: Excellent academic performance (e.g. upper second or equivalent); in case of the master/PhD, corresponding degree.

·       Language: In the English-based system, IELTS 6.0 or above/TOEFL equivalent or evidence of previous English studies; in the Chinese-based system, HSK 4 and above (usually with a 1-year preparation course in the Chinese language).

·       No other Chinese government scholarship was in place at the same time.

·       In the case of Nepali applicants: Bilateral agreements are often given priority; some programs may demand entrance tests or interviews.

Forms of CSC Scholarships that are applicable to Nepali students

Type A (Bilateral Program): Implemented via dispatching authority (Chinese Embassy in Nepal or MoEST Nepal). There are quotas in Nepal (e.g., dozens of slots every year). This is the main pathway of Nepalis.

Type B (Chinese University Program): Submit application to the approved universities (maximum of 3 choices); universities refer to CSC.

Other schemes: Type A/B is most prevalent, EU/Developing Countries schemes, MOFCOM etc.

Important Deadlines of 2026 Intake (Approximate -Vary)

1.     Application to online CSC begins: December 2025–January 2026.

2.     Embassy/MoEST filing: January 2026 -March 2026 (e.g. February 2026-March 2026 for many).

3.     Deadlines in the university: January 2026-April 2026 (Type B usually earlier).

4.     Final results: April–July 2026.

Best of luck with for CSC application, it is competitive but very rewarding to Nepali students! Now, it is time to start preparing documents to the 2026 intake.
