Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC), which is managed
by China Scholarship Council (CSC) under the Ministry of Education of China, is
one of the most multifaceted and most desirable scholarships offered to
international students and Nepalese students are not left behind. It serves to
finance in full or part the studies at the Chinese universities on bachelor,
master, doctoral and other degrees (e.g., general scholar, senior scholar). It
is especially popular among Nepali students studying MBBS (in the English
language), engineering, IT/computer science, business, and so forth with a high
bilateral support.
There are three major types of CSC scholarships (A, B
and C), with Type A (Bilateral Program) being the most popular path of Nepali
students via the Chinese Embassy in Nepal or even the Ministry of Education,
Science and Technology (MoEST) in Nepal. The Chinese University Program (direct
university nomination) is Type B and other designated programs are Type C.
The
scholarship covers:
· Full
tuition
· Accommodation
(or stipend)
· Monthly
living allowance (e.g. CNY 2,500 undergraduate, CNY 3,000 masters, CNY 3,500
doctoral).
· Full-time
medical coverage.
· One-time
settlement allowance (usually CNY 1,5003,000)
General
eligibility: 2026 Intake Eligibility Criteria
· In
good health (physical/mental) Non-Chinese citizen.
· Age
restriction: Not older than 25 years bachelor, not older than 35 years master,
not older than 40 years PhD (some flexibility).
· Academic
qualifications: Excellent academic performance (e.g. upper second or
equivalent); in case of the master/PhD, corresponding degree.
· Language:
In the English-based system, IELTS 6.0 or above/TOEFL equivalent or evidence of
previous English studies; in the Chinese-based system, HSK 4 and above (usually
with a 1-year preparation course in the Chinese language).
· No
other Chinese government scholarship was in place at the same time.
· In
the case of Nepali applicants: Bilateral agreements are often given priority;
some programs may demand entrance tests or interviews.
Forms
of CSC Scholarships that are applicable to Nepali students
Type
A (Bilateral Program): Implemented via dispatching
authority (Chinese Embassy in Nepal or MoEST Nepal). There are quotas in Nepal
(e.g., dozens of slots every year). This is the main pathway of Nepalis.
Type
B (Chinese University Program): Submit application to
the approved universities (maximum of 3 choices); universities refer to CSC.
Other
schemes: Type A/B is most prevalent, EU/Developing Countries
schemes, MOFCOM etc.
Important
Deadlines of 2026 Intake (Approximate -Vary)
1. Application
to online CSC begins: December 2025–January 2026.
2. Embassy/MoEST
filing: January 2026 -March 2026 (e.g. February 2026-March 2026 for many).
3. Deadlines
in the university: January 2026-April 2026 (Type B usually earlier).
4. Final
results: April–July 2026.
