The United Kingdom has reaffirmed its
commitment to strengthening economic cooperation with Nepal following a
high-level meeting with the newly elected leadership of the Nepal-Britain Chamber of
Commerce and Industry (NBCCI).
The British Embassy in Nepal welcomed
the new NBCCI team this week, marking an important moment of transition and
renewed collaboration between the two countries’ business communities. The
meeting was led by the British Ambassador, who congratulated the newly elected
President Dr.
Roshan Rathi and his team, while also acknowledging the
contributions of outgoing President Rajendra Kumar Khetan for his
leadership and service.
Discussions during the meeting focused on practical and actionable
ways to strengthen bilateral trade, attract greater British investment in Nepal, and create new
opportunities for businesses in both countries. Participants emphasized the
need to improve market access, promote Nepal as an attractive investment
destination, and deepen private-sector partnerships.
The Ambassador highlighted that the UK sees Nepal as a long-term economic partner,
with strong potential in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, tourism,
technology, education and sustainable development.
The Nepal-Britain Chamber of Commerce and
Industry was praised for playing a crucial bridging role between Nepali
and British businesses. By connecting investors, entrepreneurs, and
policymakers, NBCCI has helped turn diplomatic relations into real economic
outcomes.
With the new leadership in place, both sides
expressed optimism that the chamber will further strengthen commercial ties and
help Nepali businesses access UK markets, while encouraging British companies
to explore opportunities in Nepal.
The UK Embassy expressed confidence in the new NBCCI leadership
and reiterated its readiness to support initiatives that promote trade,
innovation, and investment. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both
sides looking forward to closer cooperation and a productive partnership in the
coming years.
As Nepal seeks to accelerate economic growth
and attract foreign investment, such engagements underline the growing
importance of UK-Nepal economic diplomacy and private-sector
collaboration.
