Nepali Cybersecurity Student’s Inspiring U.S. Journey

December 26, 2025

A rising Nepalese scholar, Sangam Paudel, who is currently studying cybersecurity at the University of South Florida, has released an insightful video interview sharing his personal journey and experiences as an international student in the United States offering inspiration, practical advice, and cautionary lessons for other Nepalese and South Asian students dreaming of studying abroad.

In the video ( part of a series highlighting real student stories) Sangam discusses the challenges he faced adapting to life in the U.S., securing a program in a highly competitive field and navigating academic pressures and cultural transitions. His story resonates strongly at a time when many prospective students are reconsidering overseas options amid rising immigration scrutiny and changing global education trends.

From Pokhara to Florida: A Personal Story

Born and raised in Nepal, Sangam pursued his undergraduate education locally before applying to universities in the United States. He chose University of South Florida for its strong cybersecurity curriculum, research opportunities and industry links especially at a time when demand for digital security professionals is skyrocketing globally. In his comments, Sangam highlighted several key themes:

Academic Rigor: Cybersecurity coursework at USF is “fast-paced and demanding,” requiring strong problem-solving skills and dedication.

Cultural Adjustment: Adapting to a new environment, climate, and academic expectations was challenging, but support from international student offices made a “big difference” in settling in.

Career Focus: He emphasized the importance of internships, hands-on lab work and professional networking which is crucial for students planning to stay in technology sectors after graduation.

Visa and Work Reality: Like many international students, Sangam reiterated that staying informed about visa rules, OPT work authorization and travel policies is essential amid evolving U.S. immigration policies.

Advice for Aspiring Students

1.     Sangam’s video is more than a personal narrative for students considering study abroad:

2.     Start preparing early for standardized tests, financial planning, and document verification.

3.     Research University services that help with internships, career placement and visa support.

4.     Be proactive in networking with peers and professionals in your field of study.

5.     Stay updated on visa and immigration policy changes that may affect travel, work, and long-term residency options.

His message is particularly timely as shifting global education policies, including recent U.S. student visa revocations and tightening requirements, have left many applicants uncertain about their future plans.

Why This Matters for Nepalese Students?

Sangam’s account provides real-world perspective at a time when many Nepalese students are actively planning overseas education especially in technical fields such as cybersecurity, data science, and engineering. His experiences underscore that while challenges abroad are real, clear planning and informed preparation can lead to success.

Takeaway

Sangam Paudel’s journey from Nepal to the United States represents both the aspirations and realities of modern international students blending ambition with adaptability and highlighting the importance of preparation, resilience and community support.

As global education landscapes continue to shift, stories like his offer encouragement and guidance for the next generation of Nepalese students exploring opportunities abroad.
