Scholarships for Nepali Students

1.     Erasmus+: For Master’s Degree, Tuition, Travel, Living Expenses.

2.     Norwegian Government Quota Scheme: Partial and/or Full Scholarships available for developing countries like Nepal.

3.     University Graduate Schools: NTNU, University of Oslo provide merit-based tuition waivers, as much as 100%.

4.     Confucius Institute Scholarships: For Chinese studies. Scholarships available for students applying for scholarship programmes through Nepal's Ministry of Education.

 

Admission Process/Visa Process

For Nepali Students Apply to University via University Website/Study in Norway (Application deadlines generally Dec-March for Fall Semester admission).

Required documents to apply:

1.     10+2/Bachelor's degree with at least 60% (for master’s)

2.     An English language proficiency test (e.g., IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 90), and a motivational letter.

3.     When you have been accepted, apply for a study permit (residence permit) using either the UDI.no or Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi (which is responsible for Nepal)

Apply for Study Permit:

1.     Passport Acceptance Letter Proof of Financial Resources (NOK 166,859 per year or scholarship).

2.     Proof of Accommodation bank statement.

3.     Health Insurance.

4.     Police Clearance Certificate.

5.     Fees: NOK 4,900 for Application.

6.     Processing Time is approximately of 2-3 months.

7.     Adjust funds for one semester of study: Fall Semester NOK 75,845 / Spring Semester NOK 91,014.

 

 Monthly cost of Living in Norway (2025)

·       Rent (Student Housing): NOK 4,000 to NOK 7,000

·       Food (Groceries + Canteen): NOK 3,000 to NOK 4,000

·       Transport:  NOK 500 to NOK 800 (Monthly Transport Pass)

·       Phone + Internet: NOK 300 to NOK 500

·       Miscellaneous Expenses: NOK 1,000 to NOK 2,000

 Monthly Total: NOK 10,000 to NOK 15,000 (€900 to €1,400)

Work Hours for Non-EU Citizens

·       During the school year, non-EU citizens can work up to 20 hours a week and full-time during holidays (with an official work permit).

·       Approximately NOK 200/hour can be earned in most cases.

·       Common job positions for this hourly wage are in cafés, retail stores and as a tutoring assistant (some students report earning up to NOK 5,000 to NOK 10,000 per month).

·       After graduating from college or university, non-EU citizens can apply for a one-year work search permit.

·       There are many companies seeking out non-EU graduates for their expertise in areas such as renewable energy, technology, oil and gas, and research.
