Ukraine has launched a drone attack on a Russian oil
depot deep inside Russian territory, marking a significant escalation following
Moscow’s use of advanced hypersonic missiles earlier this week.
Russian regional authorities confirmed that a fuel
storage facility was set ablaze after being struck by unmanned aerial vehicles.
Emergency services were deployed to contain the fire, and local officials said
residents in nearby areas were advised to take precautions. No casualties have
been reported so far.
The strike followed a large-scale Russian assault on
Ukrainian cities, which included missile and drone attacks targeting energy
infrastructure. Ukrainian officials said the bombardment caused widespread
power outages and damage to civilian facilities.
Military analysts say Ukraine’s ability to strike
targets far beyond the front line highlights the growing role of drone warfare
in the conflict. By targeting energy facilities, Kyiv appears to be seeking to
disrupt Russia’s fuel supply and military logistics.
The war, now entering another year, has increasingly
spilled beyond battlefield zones, raising concerns about further escalation.
International observers continue to urge restraint, warning that attacks on
critical infrastructure risk deepening humanitarian suffering on both sides.
