January – February 2026 (Final Research & Program Shortlisting)
At the beginning of 2026, students should focus on finalizing their study
plans. This period is crucial for shortlisting Belgian universities and
degree programs based on eligibility, tuition fees, language
requirements, and career goals. Students should carefully review scholarship
options such as VLIR-UOS, Master Mind, ARES, Erasmus Mundus, and university-specific
scholarships to ensure they meet all criteria. Any missing
academic documents, such as transcripts or provisional certificates, should be
requested during this time.
February – March 2026 (Major Scholarship Deadlines)
This is the most critical phase for scholarships
in Belgium. Many of the most popular scholarships for international and Nepali
students close during this period. Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree programs usually have deadlines between January and February,
while VLIR-UOS
and Master
Mind Scholarships often
close by late
February or early March. Students must ensure that both university admission
applications and scholarship nominations are completed before deadlines, as
many Belgian scholarships require prior or simultaneous admission.
March – April 2026 (University Application
Deadlines)
Most Belgian universities close their international student
admissions between March and April for the September
2026 intake. During this time, students submit finalized applications, upload
motivation letters, recommendation letters, CVs, and language test results.
Applicants targeting ARES scholarships for French-speaking institutions should
also complete their submissions during this period. Careful attention should be
paid to application portals, as missing documents can delay or cancel
applications.
April – May 2026 (Interviews & Additional
Requirements)
Some scholarship programs and competitive Master’s or
PhD programs may conduct online interviews or request additional documents during
April and May. Students should regularly check their email and university
portals for updates. This period is also used by universities to evaluate
academic records and finalize shortlists for merit-based scholarships.
May – June 2026 (Admission & Scholarship
Results)
By late May or June 2026, most students receive admission decisions
and scholarship
outcomes. Successful applicants must carefully review offer
letters, scholarship conditions, and funding details. This is also the time to accept the offer,
pay any required confirmation deposits (if applicable), and request official
admission letters needed for visa processing.
June – July 2026 (Visa Application & Financial
Preparation)
Once admission and scholarship confirmation are
received, students should begin the Belgium student visa (Type D) application process. This includes preparing
financial documents, proof of accommodation, medical certificates, police
clearance, and insurance. Visa appointments can take time, so early application
is strongly advised. Students without full scholarships should also arrange
proof of funds according to Belgian embassy requirements.
July – August 2026 (Travel & Pre-Departure
Arrangements)
During this period, students should book flights, arrange
accommodation, and attend pre-departure briefings if provided by universities or
scholarship bodies. Students should also prepare essential documents such as
passports, visa approval letters, academic certificates, and medical records.
Learning basic information about Belgian culture, climate, and student life is
also recommended.
September 2026 (Arrival in Belgium &
Enrollment)
Most academic programs in Belgium begin in September 2026.
Students arrive in Belgium, complete municipality registration, attend orientation programs,
and officially enroll at their universities. Scholarship holders may also
complete administrative formalities related to stipend payments and insurance
during this time.
