London / Kathmandu
Cases of fraud in the name of
securing UK work permits have skyrocketed, leaving many Nepalese financially
ruined and emotionally devastated. The Nepali
Embassy in London has raised serious alarm over the rising number of
scams involving fake job sponsors, bogus work permits, and other deceptive
promises related to employment in the United Kingdom.
Ambassador Bipin Duwadi has urged victims to come forward with evidence, assuring full cooperation from the Embassy to help pursue justice and legal action. The warning comes as more and more Nepalese both in Nepal and already living in the UK fall victim to elaborate fraud networks.
Victims
Losing Crores and Trust
Many victims have reported losing huge sums of money, sometimes
amounting to crores of rupees,
after paying fraudsters who promised UK work permits and job sponsorships. Some
were told they had secured employment and visas, only to later discover that
the documents were fake to begin with.
“It’s not just about losing money,
it is about shattered dreams and stress that affects entire families,” said one
victim who wished to remain anonymous. Thousands leave their homes hoping for
better opportunities abroad instead, they are met with deceit and hardship.
Fraud
Rings Using Sophisticated Tactics
According to the Embassy, organized fraud rings often involving people
of Nepali origin are behind many of these schemes. These fraudsters
frequently change phone numbers, hide their identities and use networks both
inside Nepal and abroad to evade law enforcement.
Some victims reported being
introduced to fraudsters through friends, acquaintances or contacts in third
countries, only to be tricked into paying large sums for work permit arrangements
that never materialized.

These cases may be punishable under
laws in both countries and formal complaints can help authorities track and
prosecute those responsible.
Why
This Scam Is Growing?
Experts say that high demand for overseas work and limited legal channels make many
people vulnerable. Fraudsters exploit this desperation by offering quick
solutions with promises of job sponsorships, perfect paperwork, and guaranteed
placements.
Similar frauds have been reported
not only for the UK but also involving other countries’ work and seasonal
visas, highlighting a larger issue of illegal
recruitment and exploitation in the foreign employment sector.
A
Human Toll beyond Finance
For many families, the impact goes
beyond financial loss. Victims often suffer intense emotional stress,
disruption of life plans, and strain on mental well-being. Stories of families
selling property, borrowing heavily, or facing debt to pay fraudsters are
becoming increasingly common.
One mother shared how her son’s
dream of working abroad turned into a nightmare: “He paid all his savings, and
now he doesn’t know what to do. We trusted someone we thought was helping us.”
As the Embassy urges caution, potential migrants are
encouraged to:
