1. Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship (GOI-IES)

The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship (GOI-IES) is one of the most prestigious Irish scholarships for international students, open to Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD applicants from non-EU/EEA countries like Nepal. It is funded by the Irish government and aims to attract global talent across a wide range of disciplines. Successful recipients typically receive a full tuition fee waiver plus a generous stipend (around €10,000) for one year of study. This scholarship is valid at participating Irish universities and highly competitive due to its strong financial support and broad eligibility.

2. Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme

For students interested in research-based Master’s and doctoral programs, the Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme (administered by the Irish Research Council) is an excellent option. This award supports students with a stipend (around €19,000 per year), contribution to tuition fees (around €5,750), and research expenses, making it one of the best funded scholarships for research studies in Ireland. It’s ideal for Nepali students planning careers in academia, science, engineering, or humanities research.

3. UCD Global Excellence Scholarships (University College Dublin)

University College Dublin (UCD), one of Ireland’s largest and most international universities, offers Global Excellence Scholarships for non-EU international students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These scholarships can cover anywhere from partial tuition waivers to full tuition support depending on academic merit and interview evaluations. UCD also has discipline-specific awards such as the Smurfit School MSc Academic Excellence Scholarship, which provides 25%–50% tuition coverage for eligible Master’s candidates.

4. Trinity College Dublin International Scholarships

Trinity College Dublin (TCD) is the Ireland’s highest-ranked university which offers several internationally recognized scholarships for students across levels, such as the Global Excellence Undergraduate and Postgraduate Scholarships. These awards often range from €2,000 to €5,000 (or more) in tuition fee support and are awarded based on academic merit and leadership qualities. Trinity also occasionally has region-specific scholarships targeting students from Asia or other developing regions.

5. University of Galway (NUI Galway / University of Galway) Global Scholarships

The University of Galway (formerly NUI Galway) offers an international scholarship program for non-EU applicants. These awards include tuition fee reductions (€1,000–€5,700) and merit scholarships tied to academic achievement in specific schools like Business and Law. For postgraduate candidates, there may also be 50%-tuition merit awards for high-achieving students.

6. Dublin City University (DCU) International Student Scholarships

Dublin City University (DCU) provides a range of scholarships for international students in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. DCU’s international scholarships typically offer tuition discounts (€2,000–€4,000 or more) for students with strong academic records, particularly in areas like business, STEM, and humanities. These are merit-based and designed to reward achievement and potential.

 7. Maynooth University Scholarships

Maynooth University offers a variety of scholarships for international students, including entrance and merit awards, sports scholarships, and departmental research awards. Scholarship amounts typically range from €1,000 to €5,000, and selection is often based on academic excellence, extracurricular achievements, or specific programme criteria. Maynooth’s awards can help reduce tuition costs and support student success.

8. Other University & Institutional Scholarships

A number of other Irish universities and institutions offer merit-based or need-based scholarships, including:

  • University College Cork (UCC) is an international merit and excellence scholarships.
  • Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) offers scholarships for high-achieving non-EU students.
  • Griffith College Dublin gives academic and enrollment awards.
  • University of Limerick provides international student scholarships and program-specific awards.

These university awards typically provide tuition reductions or fixed grants (€1,000-€6,000 or more) and are very valuable for reducing overall study costs in Ireland.

9. Erasmus+ Scholarships

Although not specific to Ireland alone, the Erasmus+ programme lets international students (including from Nepal) study in Ireland as part of broader EU joint programs. Erasmus+ can provide tuition coverage, living stipends, travel grants, and insurance for eligible exchange or joint-degree programs across participating European institutions. This is especially attractive for Master’s students and short-term study experiences.

Why These Scholarships Are Popular with Nepali Students?

Ireland’s scholarship ecosystem is attractive because it combines government-backed funding, university merit awards, research support, and external EU programmes. Many of these opportunities offer tuition waivers, professional development, and living support, significantly reducing the cost of study abroad. Non-EU students, including Nepali applicants, find these scholarships particularly appealing due to Ireland’s high academic standards, English-medium instruction, and strong global reputation.
